The Essential Step-by-Step Guide to Setup & Host Your Own Website

Hey there, ‘im guessing you’d probably landed on this site as you want to know how to create your very own website. Fret not as you have come to the right place. We have a comprehensive step-by-step guide taking you from the beginning to the point where your site is finally completed. As some steps are more detailed , we will link you to you the sub articles with detailed steps on webhostingblob.com to get a better picture.

3 Essential Steps To Making Your Own Website

In a nutshell, there’s 3 steps you need to take in order to have a website of your own. We will go into further detail of each step one by one below

Step 1 – Getting a domain name

The first step you need to do is getting your website a domain name. The domain name is the web address of your website where your visitors will use to find your website. For example, you’re at ‘webhostingblob.com’ hence the quoted part is our domain name where you used to find our website. Domain names come in different extensions or TLDs (top level domains) like .com , .net , .org , .info and many more just to name a few.

Domain names are registered based on an annual basis and they would  cost anywhere from $10-$17 depending on the domain registrar you choose. Having a domain name doesn’t mean you already have a website, it’s just a name for your website on the internet just like registering a business name in the offline-world does not mean you have a real business with the premises and assets, yet.

Over here we have a detailed guide on how to choose a good domain name for your website as well as another page of step by step to registering your domain name with the registrar.

Step 2 – Choosing the Right Web Host

Now after you have your domain name registered the next step is to get a web hosting company to host your website or in simple terms, to store files and maintain your website live on the internet. A webhosting company has a network of computers running and connected to the internet 24/7 as to keep the websites hosted on their computers live all the time as this is how the internet works without sleep, without rest all day and all night.

Now if the domain name is your registered business name or home address then the web hosting would be your business premise or your home. There are a few types of web hosting available on the internet but the most common type of all would be shared web hosting as this is recommended for people with new websites. You can read more on the other types of web hosting over at the Different Types of Web Hosting article if you want to.

Head over here for our step by step guide to choosing and registering with a web host . Please read on the how to point your domain name to the web host article after you have registered with a web hosting company as this is an essential piece to the puzzle as we need to let the domain registrar knows that you already have a web host server ready to host your website,.

Step 3 – Website Setup and Design

The final step involves getting your website designed and ready to be viewed by the world! You can either hire a web designer to do this for you or in this case i would assume that you would be designing the website on your own. If you’re new to all this or don’t know have any programming skills at all, don’t worry as we have an article on how you can setup a website/blog based on the WordPress platform which requires no programming skills at all, perfect for beginners.

If you prefer to go the traditional way of using HTML with other scripts I would suggest you use a WYSIWYG (what you see is what you get) editor/compiler which is perfect for beginners. You would recommend Kompozer as it’s easy to use and it’s free too. For paid versions , Adobe’s Dreamweaver would be the choice as you get to use and implement advanced functions of HTML and other scripting languages such as PHP , and Javascript.
