HostMonster Web Hosting Review

HostMonster is another of many companies I almost signed up with.  Being as cheap as I am, I went for a service that I thought was more affordable, but actually ended up being around the same price.  You know how web hosts do - “blah blah blah” per month, but you only get the “blah blah blah” price when signing up for a certain amount of time.  Anyway, I digress.  I landed myself a decent service and HostMonster - well, it looks like they’ve been rolling along without me.  Be that as it may, I welcome the Monster into my top 10 with an in-depth web hosting review.

HostMonster Portfolio

Need a dedicated server?  Interested in how server virutalization can help your business?  Look elsewhere because you won’t get those type of solutions here.  What you will find however, is a single plan that has been catering to individual and business needs for years.  HostMonster offers one hosting package and boy is it ever loaded.  You wouldn’t know that the service is geared towards inexperienced users, especially when feasting your eyes on all the advanced features.

HostMonster Feature Set

I have to be honest, HostMonster supplies more features than you will probably know what to do with.  In this instance, that’s a good thing.  I always say make use of the basics and then get more sophisticated as your site demands more functionality.  As far as the features go, you get an easy to use drag-and-drop site builder, thousands of FTP accounts for sharing your files and Shell Access for securely accessing your hosting account.  HostMonster sets you up with tons of free software in the form of blog scripts, poll and survey programs, forums, content management systems and more.  All of these applications come free with your account and can be easily installed through cPanel, everyone’s favorite control panel.  Not bad for as low as $5.95 a month.

HostMonster Reliability

HostMonster has been around for well over a decade and its long stay in the business can be attributed to a highly reliable service.  The Monster ensures the availability of your site by utilizing quality server hardware and leveraging high-speed connections to the internet.  Coupled with 24/7 networking and a world-class data center, these same features make for the high level of performance you need to succeed with your website.

HostMonster Technical Support and Customer Service

I once observed HostMonster boasting something like “best support in the industry”.  While all that is certainly up for debate, the company does tend to be pretty responsive.  HostMonster provides various ways to get help including toll-free phone, email and support ticket, which is pretty convenient if you don’t mind waiting for a response.  If you’re someone who doesn’t always like talking on the phone like myself, you will be happy to know that quality assistance can also be obtained in real-time via the online chat feature.  In addition, HostMonster has a nice collection of self-help resources that let you find your own answers.

HostMonster Overall Value

Though lacking in variety, HostMonster is worth looking into, especially if you don’t need a large website or expect millions in traffic every month.  The price is good, the support is on point and most importantly, the service is very reliable.  Despite what it lacks, I say HostMonster makes a fine choice for running your online business and hundreds of thousands of customers would probably agree.
